Doctor Who: Bringer of Darkness & Land of the Blind Review

DW Bringer of Darkness and Land of the Blind

We end our run through the DWM graphic novel “Land of the Blind” with the titular story, as well as a single chapter bonus story (with Victoria and Daleks!), both from the 2nd Doctor era. Normally have two stories from two different TARDIS teams in one article would annoy me, but there will be so few Second Doctor DWM stories to list, it’s not going to hurt… Much. Anyway, how are the stories I hear you say? Well…

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Solid State Society Review

GITS SAC SSS

My stroll down memory lane with Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex comes to an end as we reach Solid State Society, the final chapter in this version of the GITS world. Given it’s a film with a sub-two-hour runtime, it obviously lacks the depth and slow burn nature of the big cases from the two TV series, but it still has its moments, both with plot and some tense action scenes as well. Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Change of Mind Review

DW Change of Mind

Change of Mind is two things, firstly it’s a Third Doctor comic, which is great as I love the era and this story has some nice artwork to go along with a good story, and secondly it takes place in between seasons 7 and 8 and featuring a post-UNIT Liz Shaw, which is a unique setting. Let’s see if… well, I’ve already said it’s a good story with nice artwork, but let’s take a closer look anyway!

Doctor Who: Food for Thought Review

DW Food for Thought

Now here’s a rare thing: a First Doctor comic! Yes, I can’t imagine many more of these going up on the blog to be honest, he’s cameo’d and guest appeared in plenty, but very rarely had his own (apart from the TV Action! Comics from the 60s, but I don’t see them getting a physical release…) Anyway, Food For Thought is also an extremely early Nicholas Briggs script, though so early it doesn’t really have any of his hallmarks (good or bad) and instead is just a harmless little story. Let’s take a closer look.

Doctor Who: The Lunar Strangers Review

DW Lunar Strangers

Sinister cows on the moon! That’s about all you need to know about “The Lunar Strangers”, the next story from Doctor Who Magazine included in the “Land of the Blind” graphic novel. I mean that literally as well, once that core concept has been established, there isn’t really anything else to say about the story… Let’s have a look anyway!

Solo – A Star Wars Story Review

Solo

After several failed attempts to go see it at the cinema, I was resigned to the fact I’d have to watch Solo for the first time on blu-ray in September, but as luck would have it my local theatre did a special screening of the film! My streak of watching all the Star Wars films (made after I was born…) on the big screen continues! ANYWAY, so how was Solo? It was fun and exciting, and had a really good cast. I didn’t need to see so many boxes ticked off, but I’m not unhappy the film exists. So let’s take a deeper look…

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig Episodes 14 – 26 Review

GITS SAC 2nd Gig P2

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex’s “2nd Gig” comes to a close and manages to pull off a great ending to a both their leading (and intersecting) storylines. Unlike the previous season finale being all talk, this was very nearly all action, though it still made sure to have some of that GITS “makes you think” social issues in it. So let’s have a closer look!

WWF RAW (SNES / MD) Review

WWF RAW

The Wrestling Rundown reaches the end of the Acclaim 16-bit engine games: WWF RAW. Once again I had it on the Mega Drive then later re-brought it for the SNES when I inherited my brothers SNES collection after I had sold off my MD. RAW is the culmination of the three games, with some great new additions like unique movesets and tornado tag team matches being in alongside the personally played-to-death Royal Rumble mode. So let’s have a look then!
