Doctor Who: Victims Review

DW Victims

Time to start a look through the latest Doctor Who Magazine collected stories release, Land of the Blind, starting with this Fourth Doctor story! Yes, unlike previous DWM releases, this was during the “dark days” when Doctor Who had been off the air for so long that they switched to a rotating Doctors format instead of continuing with the Seventh Doctor exclusively. ANYWAY, Victims is a … well, it’s alright. The art is a bit weird… Let’s take a look so I can stop rambling!

Agents of SHIELD – Season 5 Overall Review

AoShield S5

Agents of SHIELD Season 5 is a mixed bag. They sadly dropped the three mini arcs idea from the previous season and went for a split, though with the two halves heavily dependent on each other. There were plenty of call-backs and pay-offs during this season, and an ending that would make you think it was the overall end, but there’s still more on the way! Anyway, let’s take a look then, at a season that spanned space, the future and beyond! … Well, actually, just space, the future and present day. Still impressive though!

Agents of SHIELD Season 5 Episodes 18 – 22 Review

AoShield S5 P3

Agents of SHIELD’s Fifth Season comes to a close, and boy, it has a lot of twists and turns, as well as pay-offs to long-running storylines. I really enjoyed this string of episodes, and if this ended up being the overall finale it would have been fine as well. As it stands a smaller-episode-count Sixth season has been confirmed for next year, so… anyway, let’s take a closer look at how Season 5 ended!

Octopussy Review

Octopussy

I always dislike when I get to Octopussy on a Bond watch through, and given I remember that feeling despite this being only the third time I’ve watched them all in a row goes to show how much is sticks in my mind. It’s not terrible like Diamonds are Forever, but it commits possibly an even worse sin: It’s dull as hell… and full of poor Moore-era humour. Anyway, let’s get Octopussy out of the way so I can never watch it again… unless another new format ends up releasing a nice collectors set, then… bollocks.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig Episodes 1 – 13 Review

GITS SAC 2G P1

The second season of GITS SAC gets off to a strong start. 2nd Gig has a reputation of not being as good as the first season, but I think it comes down to this season being more simple with its antagonist as opposed to being more cerebral and thought-provoking, but there are still some really good episodes to be found here. Let’s take a closer look at the first half then!

Doctor Who: Supremacy of the Cybermen Review

DW Supremacy of the Cybermen

It’s a “of the Cybermen” double on this site, completely coincidentally. I finally end my run on the Titan Comics Year 2 graphics novels with this, the big crossover event… sort of. It features all four of the Doctors that had on-going comics in this year (as well as cameos from other Doctors!), but they’re all separate and never interact with each other. Oh, and the artwork is awful. Let’s take a deeper look, then!

Doctor Who: Hour of the Cybermen Review

DW Hour of the Cybermen

Hour of the Cybermen is two things. First it’s the second in a loosely connected trilogy based on 80s UNIT (or possibly a specific member of 80s UNIT), and it’s also the long-awaited return of the more talkative, fist-clenching “EX-cellent!” shouting 80s Cybermen! On top of all that, it’s actually a really good story, so let’s take a closer look!

Doctor Who: The Time War Series 2 – In The Garden of Death & Jonah Review

DW TW S2 P2

The second half of the second “series” (or boxset, let’s face it) of the Eighth Doctor’s Time War adventures is a pair of pretty standard stories. Neither “In the Gardren of Death” or “Jonah” will make you jump out of your seat and praise how great they are, but neither will leave un-entertained at the same time. In fact they’re both good stories, but they just lack that spark of originality… so let’s see what I mean!

Hotline Miami (PS4) Review

Hotline Miami

A first, and to be honest probably a rare, indie game review! I barely have enough time to play new AAA games currently, let alone play smaller indie ones, as good a some may be. Anyway, I saw this and its sequel (which I’ll get to later, I’m sure) on sale for just a couple of pounds on the PS Store and as it had been in the back of my head for a while I went ahead and brought them! Hotline Miami is a top down shooter, with a good sense of humour and a fun and quick play style, so let’s have a look!

Doctor Who: The Time War Series 2 – The Lords of Terror & Planet of the Ogrons Review

DW TW S2 P1

The Time War returns with the second series of Eighth Doctor stories set during the universe-altering period. These first two stories are entirely stand alone, with the first one being quite dark and dramatic, and the second being quite campy and fun (while still being the Time War, so not all laughs, obviously…) It’s a good double bill, so let’s look at them a bit more deeply, shall we?
