Doctor Who: Shadow of the Sun Review

DW Shadow of the Sun

Shadow of the Sun is a “Lockdown Special Release”, recorded entirely from the casts’ homes. How does that effect the release? It doesn’t, other than a bonus Fourth Doctor release in May… which sounds good to me! The actual story is two parts bog-standard run-around, one part interesting religious examination. Does that mix work?! Let’s find out!

Mobile Suit Victory Gundam – Episodes 28 – 39 Review

Victory Gundam Part 3

Victory Gundam’s third batch of episodes features the appearance of Uso’s mother (given she’s a female character, you know how that turns out!) and loads and loads of wheels. Mobile suits in wheels, large capital ships with wheels, the huge ship class called the “Adrastia” is also on wheels… it’s very odd, especially the first few episodes in space! Is it good though? Well… *sigh*… No. Not really. Let’s take a look anyway…

The Mandalorian – Season 1 Review

Mandalorian S1

In another one of those “late because it didn’t come to the UK until later” reviews (though thankfully the last in terms of Disney +) it’s time to look at the first season of The Mandalorian. A live action Star Wars show where the lead character wears cool Mandalorian armour? I was sold immediately! Did the show live up to or even surpass the rather vein promise? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: The Talons of Weng-Chiang Review

DW The Talons of Weng-Chiang

The Season 14 Blu-Ray set has been released, and that means it’s time to review a story from the set! It was close in terms of which ones I hadn’t watched in the longest time, but I decided to go with Talons because… the other was Masque of Mandragora, and while I’m sure my memories of it being dull might not be true, I fancied a nice long evening with a fun six-parter that I surprisingly haven’t watched in nearly a decade. The Doctor, Leela, Jago, Litefoot, Greel, Mr. Sin… it’s full of characters, quotes and moments engraved in your head, so let’s look just how and why it still stands up, despite… “questionable in today’s world” visual effects.

Double Dragon II (NES) Review

Double Dragon II

Scrolling Sundays moves into week two, and with it the second (and I’m pretty sure last) game on the list that I didn’t actually play back in the day. I’ve already reviewed the original, and DD III is up next week (which I actually owned on the Mega Drive…) so given I have access to it via Nintendo Online, I thought I may as well complete the original Double Dragon trilogy rather than leave this out. It’s safe to say “The Revenge” is a big improvement over the original, but by how much? Let’s find out!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 7 Review

SW Clone Wars S7

The original run of Clone Wars cartoons ended long before this blog started, and while I hope one day to go back and look at them, I am happy to review the “Final Season” that just finished airing on Disney+. Comprised of three four-part stories that were planned but never created, it’s safe to say that this season is the final four episode arc, “The Siege of Mandalore”, and the rest are sort of there. Still, let’s take a closer look anyway!

Doctor Who: Ground Zero Review

DW Ground Zero

Here we go then, the titular story and one of those infamous things you hear about as you start to dive deeper into fandom. While I won’t spoil the twist here, I have a spoiler warning in the review part for a reason, you’ve no doubt heard about why this story is so infamous at some point in your Who travels. Still, beyond THAT reason, is the story any good? Does it serve as a good lead in to the fantastic DWM Eighth Doctor comic run? Let’s find out!

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Review

Lara Croft Tomb Raider

Given the runaway success that was the original game, and the fact that not only was it set in an easily-realised-on-screen modern world but its main protagonist was an attractive female, this was a no brainer. Just hire a top actress who attractive and can do a half decent English accent (or not?) and there you go! But is Lara Croft: Tomb Raider actually good, or was it just like the Resident Evil films that came after it and just about the female hero looking cool?

Tomb Raider (PS1) Review

Tomb Raider

Funnily enough I’ve never really been into the Tomb Raider series. I played the original quite a bit around various friends’ houses, and I THINK I played the second one, also around a friend’s house, but that’s it really. I know all about the series because, let’s face it, it was the first 3D series to actually become “Iconic”, with Lara Croft herself becoming a gaming icon in no time flat. Still, along with giving you a look at the game that inspired the film, how does Tomb Raider play in 2020? Well…
