As mentioned in my review of Rival Turf last week I was completely unaware that a personal “guilty pleasure” (not I was aware it was at the time…) had two sequels until me and my friends discovered the shady world of ROMs in the mid-2000s. How did we find Brawl Brothers? Well… We got stuck in the sewer section of the game’s second or third level and gave up. How did I fair this time?! With the help of a guide as to how to pass the sewer level, better… but was it worth it? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: The Foe From The Future Review

When Tom Baker finally joined up with Big Finish most fans flocked to “Destination: Nerva”, the first Fourth Doctor Adventure, but I was one of the few who headed straight for the Fourth Doctor Lost Stories box set (which to be fair, was rather expensive at launch…) and so this was the first Fourth Doctor audio drama I heard, and boy… it’s a damn good one! Admittedly, looking back on it you can tell Tom is still just getting into the groove but hasn’t found the same older Fourth voice he eventually settled on yet. Still, is it a match for the six parter that eventually replaced it? Let’s find out!

Doom: Annihilation Review

We’re right near the end of this marathon of game-to-movies but we still have room for one more low-budget, bland adaptation that I’m betting most of you didn’t even know it existed. Doom: Annihilation saw what the previous film effort did and decided to… pretty much do the exact same thing, but with less budget. In other words it still feels closer to Doom 3 than the successful tongue-in-cheek reboot that spurred this film’s commission. Did it work?! Well, I mean if there was their plan was to remake Aliens but worse, it sure did…

Doom 3: BFG Edition (XBOX360) Review

While it would’ve made more sense to cover what’s always looked like a great reboot in PS4/XBOX One’s “Doom” I’ve never actually played it myself, so instead I went with what was an unsuccessful reboot in Doom 3. Given the film I’m reviewing alongside it though, covering an unsuccessful reboot is rather apt! Doctor Who: A Life of Matter and Death & By Hook or By Crook Review

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing – Episodes 14 – 28 Review

Gundam Wing begins to properly kick into full gear as we look at the second chunk of episodes (though for the record, Episodes 27 and 28 are recap episodes, so really this is Episodes 14 to 26…) While the core quintet of Gundam Pilots are fleshed out a bit more I have to say that once again Zechs Merquise / Milliardo Peacecraft and his boss Trieze have the most interesting moments in the narrative. Rival Turf (SNES) Review

Rival Turf is probably most fondly remembered by people for the US cover art featuring teenage thugs trying to look cool and tough (and failing!), but for us here in the PAL territories it was just another scrolling beat ‘em up with a rather bland cover. That all being said, my brother had this and we played it a lot, and me and my friends had great fun playing it in the past, though a lot of that was due to the renaming characters cheat… How does it hold up in 2020, especially in the middle of a long marathon of similar games?! Doctor Who: Wormwood Review

ECW Hardcore Revolution (PS1) Review

ECW’s first game should’ve been a reason to celebrate, but instead it was a blatant cash-grab, both ECW and Acclaim were hurting financially and so clearly wanted this out of the door as fast as possible, and it shows. It’s pretty much just WWF Attitude with ECW characters and logos, plus a Barbed Wire Match. It was still fun for a short burst because I was actually playing as ECW wrestlers, which was weird after all that time, but it soon became rather obvious what was going on. How is it now, in hindsight? Let’s find out!

Detective Pikachu Review

As mentioned in my review of Pokémon Blue, I haven’t played a lot of Pokémon games, but being a big Nintendo fan (and especially a Smash fan!) I have more than enough familiarity with the series to review this film as a game-less “Bonus” review in the marathon. So what’s Detective Pikachu like? Is it really the first game adaptation that’s actually really good? Could I finally go above a 3/5 in this long marathon?! Let’s find out!
